His extraordinary gift lies in his ability to weave a tale that invites you along on a journey through his eyes to explore the awe-inspiring wonders of the Top End and beyond.

Bev Garside

I am a Darwin based tactile artist who loves colour, texture and creative chaos. My portfolio is very eclectic and draws from a wide range of subject matter, media and styles.

Fundamentally, my work is based on the idea that the creative process of making art is a form of non-verbal communication which encourages self-discovery and emotional growth. I use art to explore what is happening in the world and to express my response to it.

Some of my favourite mediums to work with are acrylic, silk, felt and resin; and I love to incorporate them together with a range of techniques including free motion embroidery and burning. The burning technique in particular features very strongly in my work, and was developed as a response to my friend’s battle with cancer. Initially, the burning represented the cancer, but has now come to represent the strength, beauty and character that come from adversity.

Thank you for taking an interest in my work - please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to discuss purchasing any of my work/commissioning a piece of your own.

‘Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul’  - Emily Dickinson

My art comes from a deep and abiding love for animals and birds. For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by all creatures, great and small.

To me, nothing represents the beauty and diversity of God’s creation more than birds. The amazing variety of shapes, sizes and colours could keep an artist happily occupied for a lifetime.

I take my own reference photos wherever possible and can often be found, camera in hand, stalking birds. I use coloured pencils as a tool to capture the intricate detail and subtle colour variation of feathers. I may use 30-60 different coloured pencils in a single drawing.

My art has given me an opportunity to share the joyous beauty and complexity of creation with others and I thank you for your interest.

Please contact me with any questions or if you would like to discuss a commissioned piece.
